James W. Lichtenberg, PhD, ABPP is professor emeritus with the University of Kansas, where he served as a staff psychologist (and eventually Director) of its Counseling Center and for 34 years as a faculty member and director of clinical training for the university’s Counseling Psychology program. In 2004 he became Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Research, retiring from the university in 2015. He is a Fellow of Divisions 29 and 17. He has published numerous articles on social interaction and influence processes in psychotherapy and on education and training in professional psychology. His recent scholarship has focused on “expertise” in psychotherapy. He currently serves as Chair of the ABPP Foundation.
