The Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology.
Standard We Aim For
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities.
What We Have Done
- Semantic HTML structure with a logical heading hierarchy on every page
- Full keyboard navigation, with a visible focus indicator
- Color combinations chosen to meet AA contrast ratios for body text
- Text that reflows and remains readable at 200% zoom and on small screens
- Descriptive link text, and labelled form fields with clear error messages
- Landmark regions and accessible names for navigation, search, and social links
Known Limitations
We publish a large archive going back many years, and we are honest about where it falls short:
- Older images. Some images in archived articles are missing alternative text. We are working through the archive to add it, and all newly published content is checked before it goes live.
- Archived PDFs. Some older Psychotherapy Bulletin issues are scanned documents that are not fully tagged for screen readers. We can supply an accessible version of any issue on request.
- Third-party content. Embedded videos, the Google Translate widget, and the PayPal checkout are controlled by their providers, and their accessibility is outside our direct control.

If you encounter something on this site you cannot access, please tell us — it genuinely helps. Email editor@societyforpsychotherapy.org or use our website feedback form, and include the page address and a description of the problem. We aim to acknowledge reports within five business days and will work with you to provide the content you need in an accessible format.
Ongoing Work
Accessibility is not a one-time project. We review the site regularly, test with keyboard and screen reader, and treat reported barriers as priority fixes.
