The Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy has members, authors, and readers around the world. This notice sets out the additional information and rights that apply if you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

Legal Bases for Processing
We process personal data on the following bases:
- Contract — to process your membership application, collect dues, deliver member benefits, and administer your account.
- Consent — to send you the eBulletin, and to set analytics cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Legitimate interests — to operate and secure the website, respond to your enquiries, publish and archive scholarly content, and understand how the site is used. We balance these interests against your rights and freedoms.
- Legal obligation — to meet nonprofit accounting, tax, and audit requirements.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you, and receive a copy
- Rectify data that is inaccurate or incomplete
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to our legal and archival obligations
- Restrict processing while a dispute about accuracy or legitimacy is resolved
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time
- Data portability — receive data you gave us in a structured, machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent at any time where consent is the basis for processing
- Lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority
Note that published articles, author biographies, and the historical record of the Psychotherapy Bulletin form part of the permanent scholarly record. We will consider erasure requests for that material but may decline where the public interest in the integrity of the scholarly archive outweighs the request.
How to Exercise Your Rights
Email editor@societyforpsychotherapy.org with the subject line "GDPR Request." We will respond within one month. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting, and we do not charge a fee for reasonable requests.
International Data Transfers
The Society is established in the United States, and personal data is transferred to and processed there. Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum where applicable), together with supplementary technical measures including encryption in transit and access controls.
Retention
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes it was collected for, as described in the Retention section of our Privacy Policy.
Automated Decision-Making
We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
