This notice applies to California residents and supplements our Privacy Policy. It is provided under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act ("CCPA").
Categories of Personal Information We Collect
In the preceding twelve months, we have collected:
- Identifiers — name, postal address, email address, IP address (from membership and contact forms, and from site analytics)
- Customer records — phone number and payment confirmation records (from membership applications)
- Professional or employment information — degree, license status, institutional affiliation, and career stage (from membership and author submission forms)
- Internet or network activity — pages viewed, referring URLs, browser and device type (collected automatically)
- Inferences — none. We do not build profiles from the information we collect.
We do not collect the categories the CCPA designates as sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics, and we do not collect biometric, geolocation, or precise location data.
Sources, Purposes, and Disclosures
We collect this information directly from you when you submit a form, and automatically when you browse the site. We use it for the business purposes set out in our Privacy Policy, and we disclose it only to the service providers listed there, each of whom is contractually restricted to processing it on our behalf.
We Do Not Sell or Share Your Personal Information
The Society has not sold personal information, and has not shared it for cross-context behavioral advertising, in the preceding twelve months. We do not do so now and have no plans to. See Do Not Sell My Information. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
Your California Rights
- Right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, and to receive a copy
- Right to delete the personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither)
- Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not collect it for purposes that trigger this right)
- Right to non-discrimination — we will never deny you service, charge a different price, or provide a lesser quality of service because you exercised a privacy right
How to Submit a Request
Email editor@societyforpsychotherapy.org with the subject line "California Privacy Request," or use our website feedback form. We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days, extending once by a further 45 days where necessary.
We will ask you to provide information that lets us reasonably verify you are the person the information relates to. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with written permission, which we may ask to verify directly with you.
Opt-Out Preference Signals
We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. Because we do not sell or share personal information, a GPC signal results in no change to how we handle your data.
