Joy (Ngodoo) Gwar is a licensed Clinical Psychologist at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria, with over a decade of dedicated service in mental health care. She is passionate about promoting optimal psychological well-being and is committed to delivering evidence-based interventions that improve the lives of patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff. Joy is highly skilled in clinical assessment, psychometric testing, and the implementation of client-centered intervention strategies. She is a certified Trainer of Trainers (ToT) in the World Health Organization’s Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS), and Psychological First Aid (PFA).
An experienced presenter and communicator, Joy effectively translates scientific knowledge for both internal stakeholders and diverse external audiences. As a visionary and motivational leader, she inspires teamwork and drives progress toward achieving organizational goals. She currently coordinates and supervises unit heads and staff in clinical activities and leads the graduate internship program within the Department of Clinical Psychology at the Federal Medical Centre. Her leadership, clinical expertise, and passion for capacity building continue to influence the development of effective mental health services in Nigeria.
