Katerina (Katya) Scott graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, The National Public Honors College, in 2024 with a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Art. Katya was selected as a recipient of a 2023-24 Fall Mamie Phipps Clark Diversity Research Grant from Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology, for her thesis project on art therapy with Ukrainian refugees. She was also awarded the Myron G. Marlay Award for Science for her thesis as well as the Jaie M. Perrizo Human Service Award from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Katya is currently at the NIH (National Institutes of Health) as a postbaccalaureate with an IRTA (Intramural Research Training Award) in the Office of the Clinical Director. At the NIAAA (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism), Katya is interested in exploring the relationship between physical and mental health, as well as social determinants of health. Katya aims to someday pursue a PhD in Counseling or Clinical Psychology to further address these topics through research, teaching, and practice. In her future work, her goal is to identify how health disparities impact people’s experiences in therapy and create accessible interventions in response.
